在70年代的宝莱坞，有名红得发紫的女星——Shanti Priya。她的影迷成千上万，其中包括了不起眼的Om Prakash Makhija 。
Om Prakash Makhija 有两个梦想：一个是shanti，一个是就是拍电影。对于这两个目标他同样痴迷。
机缘巧合，Om得到了一部影片的拍摄机会，不过是小角色，令他兴奋的不仅仅是这个，另外一个消息就是——shanti是该片的女主角。
在一场拍摄场景中，堆满草的片场突然着火，所有人都惊慌失措，四处逃窜。但不幸的是Shanti被围在了大火中。众人皆不敢上前，最后Om情急之下发现后毫不顾虑的冲进火场把Shanti救了出来。如果大家认为 Shanti就此就以生相许，那么你就猜错了。他们只是好朋友而已。
有一天，OM去拜访Shanti。可他在屋外听见了Shanti和当时的红制作人Mukesh Mehra。他们激烈的谈话让OM震惊不已，颓然的归去后左思右想还是决定回去找Shanti。
谁料此次他们的见面不仅隔着一扇门，而且是他们此生的最后一次见面。Om眼睁睁的看着Shanti被火焰吞噬，他自己也被人从背后暗算，咽下最后一口气。
20 多年过去了
Om Kapoor，Rajesh Kapoor的独子。享有最高的荣誉，住最美的房子，拿最高的奖项。在所有人的艳羡中，Om Kapoor很享受这种满足感，在冥冥中他觉得这一切是上天的赐予。作为一名演员，他理所当然要拍片，但在一次拍摄MV的过程中，他被道具——“火”惊得晕了过去。醒来之后竟然想起了自己的前世——Om Prakash Makhija
他思及自己的遭遇，大胆猜想也许shanti也在这世上的某个角落。借着父亲的名气和权力，他以招募女主角的名义寻找shanti。功夫不负有心人，竟然真被OM找到了，这世的Shanti名叫Sandhya 。让OM沮丧的是，Sandhya 虽然与Shanti长得酷似，但她似乎丝毫不记得前世的事情了，OM耐心的等待，他总想着也许Sandhya 和他当初一样，要慢慢来
好莱坞最红的制片人MIke来到了印度，当OM看见他的时候惊呆了。因为这所谓的MIKE就是当年同Shanti在房中进行激烈交谈的那位Mukesh Mehra。
OM怒不可遏，他自然是听到当年二人的对话的，也就是这次谈话让OM和shanti都失去了生命。OM想要报复，为自己也为当年曾心爱的Shanti……
关于幕后：
《Om Shanti Om》是宝莱坞著名舞编Farah khan（曾在陈可辛“如果爱”一片中担任舞指）导演的第二部影片，她的第一部《Main hoon na》取得了出色的成绩，使她进入宝莱坞一线导演的行列。
《Om Shanti Om》从开拍起就备受瞩目，不仅仅是因为由有着“宝莱坞国王”之称的Shahrukhkhan主演，更因为该片有着诸多吸引人的因素。女主角 Deepika Padukone是印度名模，有着姣好的外型和富有亲和力的笑容，她也是印度王牌羽毛球运动员Prakash Padukone的女儿，此片是她的处女作，但她的表现可圈可点，得到观众的肯定。
因为此片的剧情涉及到宝莱坞电影圈，所以借着导演 farah kahn和主演shahrukhkhan的人气，在圈中极好的人缘，该片更是邀请了宝莱坞众多明星及印度各界名流在片中客串，大部分演员都在片中演出了他们自己，更是真实记录了印度2007年举行的filmfare电影奖的颁奖典礼。
导演farah khan拍摄此片时，已经有孕在身，所以整个剧组也更是非常努力地拍摄此片，在片中也可以看到有孕在身的farah携众多剧组成员的客串，多达三四十人的明星名流客串阵容也成为该片最令人期待的部分。
影片上映以来，创下多个宝莱坞纪录，在英国上映当天成为英国最卖座影片，2天的票房就达到 316,211英镑，创造了印度影片在英国公映的平均票房记录，在印度本土更是遍地开花，得到了95%以上观众的交口称赞；而影片中的音乐也与 Hungama Mobile公司合作，在全球23个国家同步推出手机下载音乐服务，包括印度、新加坡、美国、英国、阿联酋、斯里兰卡等等国家，这也是宝莱坞电影史上空前的新举
在最近印度对2007年电影市场的统计中，虽然《Om shanti om》年尾才上映，但已经稳坐2007年最卖座影片的榜首，而shahrukhkan的另一部励志片《Chakde india》（加油印度）位居第二
《Om shanti Om》因为有着轮回的剧情，因此也有着梦幻般的场景和歌舞，影片画面华丽唯美，在向观众诉说着美好爱情的同时也向观众展示着印度宝莱坞炫丽耀眼的浪漫风情，通过影片，可以对宝莱坞的电影制作，宝莱坞的发展现状，印度的明星名流有一个粗略的认识，这对现在已经不怎么熟悉印度电影的中国观众来说是了解宝莱坞的一个极好的机会。

. Om Prakash Makhija is a Junior Artiste in Bollywood, who is infatuated with actress Shantipriya, and hopes to marry her someday. His hopes come to reality when he rescues her from a fire and they go on a date. Shortly thereafter he finds out that she is married to a film producer, Mukesh Mehra, and is expecting his child. He then watches in horror as Mukesh, after luring her in an abandoned studio, sets it afire. Om attempts to rescue her in vain, and he eventually is killed. 30 years later, Om is reborn as the only son of yesteryear Bollywood actor, Rajesh Kapoor, and is himself an actor. His memories start to return when he meets with his widowed mother, Bela, from his previous birth. He also meets with Mukesh and together they decide to make a movie 'Om Shanti Om'. . Om Prakash is a junior artist and has dreams to become a hero overnight. Om's mother, Bela Makhija, inspires and encourages her son to become a success. He gets to meet Shanti Priya one day and finds out that she is very popular, after a few misunderstandings, Om finally falls in love with Shanti, but is unable to express it to her. He gets to attend her first film, Dreamy girl, by masquerading as the actor Manoj Kumar. He also saves her in a filming episode from an uncontrollable fire and both became good friends. Om asks her out on a date and she agrees. Om is ecstatic and plans a wonderful evening for her - using props and a film set and several backgrounds in a studio to woo her. And she finally attends but under the pretext of a friend. The following day, Om tries to talk to Shanti on the sets of a film but she looks very preoccupied. He follows her into a make up room,and overhears an argument with top producer Mukesh Mehra. He learns that she is married to him and is expecting his child. Om is shocked, and ends up leaving there, heartbroken. One night, Om notices Mukesh escorting Shanti to the set. He sees it catch fire and realizes that Shanti is trapped inside.
