◎简 介
1964年，怀孕的艾德和洛林·沃伦夫妇调查了一起与古董店里的一面古董镜子有关的闹鬼事件。洛林在幻觉中看到一个实体和她未出生的孩子，当场晕倒，随后分娩。艾德赶紧送洛林去医院，但孩子却死产了。然而，洛林的祈祷让孩子复活了，她给孩子取名为朱迪。
二十二年后，斯莫尔一家搬到了宾夕法尼亚州的西皮茨顿。杰克和珍妮特·斯莫尔与杰克的父母玛丽和约翰，以及他们的四个女儿：唐恩、希瑟、双胞胎卡琳和香农，以及他们的狗西蒙住在一起。为了希瑟的坚信礼，约翰送给她一面古董镜子。晚餐时，厨房天花板上的一盏灯突然掉下来，差点砸到希瑟。
由于艾德的心脏病日益恶化，沃伦一家放弃了调查工作，但仍继续举办讲座，但如今听课人数寥寥。晚餐时，对灵异幻象越来越敏感的朱迪突然发作，开始恐慌。洛林用朱迪小时候创作的一首童谣帮助她平静下来，并提醒她要时刻远离超自然力量。唐恩和希瑟试图处理掉镜子，但一家人仍然受到三个幽灵的恐吓：一个老妇人、一个年轻女子和一个挥舞斧头的男人。精疲力竭的一家人向媒体讲述了他们的故事，希望能得到帮助，这引起了戈登神父的注意。
朱迪的男友托尼在艾德的生日派对上向朱迪求婚，朱迪欣然接受。由于无法获得沃伦一家的帮助，戈登神父前往斯克兰顿教区为斯莫尔一家寻求帮助。恶魔在教区袭击了戈登，并诱使他自杀。在戈登神父的葬礼上，朱迪从幻象中得知，戈登神父在调查斯莫尔一家闹鬼事件时去世了。她秘密前往宾夕法尼亚州进行调查，洛林也看到了一个幻象，警告她要小心朱迪。
艾德、洛林和托尼被带到了斯莫尔，朱迪说服了她不情愿的父母帮忙。洛林发现这三个幽灵属于一位丈夫，他杀死了他的妻子和她的母亲，但他们被恶魔控制了。恶魔把朱迪骗到阁楼，她在那里遭到袭击，从楼梯上摔了下来。艾德和洛林发现了镜子，意识到它就是他们第一次调查时遇到的那个恶魔。他们确信恶魔在追杀朱迪，于是决定把镜子带回家，以便控制它。当艾德、杰克和托尼试图把镜子从房子里搬走时，朱迪突然病倒了，但他们失败了。
恶魔附身朱迪，导致艾德心脏病发作，而洛林则在地下室遭到袭击。托尼救出了洛林，艾德也恢复了意识。被附身的朱迪现在在阁楼里，试图上吊自杀，但被艾德砍倒。洛林再次用祈祷唤醒朱迪，恶魔再次袭击了他们。艾德无法驱除镜子上的魔力，洛林决定告诉朱迪要接受她的通灵能力。在朱迪的帮助下，沃伦一家摧毁了镜子。斯莫尔一家在这栋房子里又住了三年，再也没有闹鬼，镜子的残骸被保存在沃伦一家的神秘博物馆里。
不久之后，朱迪和艾德在与托尼的婚礼上携手走过红毯。婚礼前夕，艾德和洛林拥抱在一起，洛林分享了她对未来的憧憬，兴奋地期待着他们一直渴望的平静生活。
