围绕着東京审判这一重要历史事件, 本片除了讲述过程外, 更重要的还是提出了一系列国际法法律问题和伦理道德疑问, 如事后法问题, 战争罪的有無, 以及个人辩护和国家辩护的选择和远东国际法庭战犯的选择标准及其幕後秘辛等. 一些问题如天皇是否有罪, 事后法等问题甚至至今仍然存在争论, 另外通过本片影像的翔实记录, 也了解到了一些以前不知道的事实, 如满州国皇帝溥仪曾经在法庭上做伪证, 以及日本战后一度出现的反天皇言论是如此大胆等~
另外也许是年代的关系, 这部 1980 年代拍摄的纪录片可能受到是当年左派运动的影响, 全片不时透出恶心的反美主义的倾向, 而又因为当年资料解密程度不够, 部分细节与最近看到的 NHK 東京审判纪录片的分析有所出入, 一方面是对天皇等国体的批评的展现十分大胆, 但另一方面又有隐隐的民族主义, 对对被告写下無罪的少数派判决的帕尔法官观点的部分引用等等都有不公正之嫌
